Hello Halloween-Lovers!
Before we head into the weekend, I wanted to share a few Halloween-y links to get you in the mood for all that costume making, pumpkin shopping, and scary story reading you’re sure to be doing in the coming days.
First, I highly suggest you check out the Horror Writers Association’s new “Horror Selfies” campaign. This site is dedicated to supporting—you guessed it—HORROR! Fans and creators of the genre are submitting photos and messages promoting the reading and writing of horror. You can see mine here and you can see Stephen King’s here. Yep, that’s right. My selfie is rubbing elbows with Stephen King’s selfie. I’m trying not to faint.
Next, head over to my friend Annie Neugebauer’s website. Her blog is October-themed this month too, and she’s also doing a giveaway! All you have to do is comment on one of her posts this month, and you’ll be entered to win a copy of The Shining or The Collected Works of Edgar Allan Poe. The more you comment, the more chances you have to win. Oh, and be sure to check out Annie’s horror selfie here.
This one’s just for friends in the Austin area: Did you know that Austin now has a mini urban drive-in movie theater? We do! The Blue Starlite is located on East 51st Street where the old airport used to be. (Yeah, that’s right. I’ve been in Austin long enough to remember the old airport. I take pride in that.) They’re showing horror movies all month long, so get your tickets today! I’ll be taking my first trip there in a couple of weeks to see The Shining. Care to join me? You can also follow The Blue Starlite on Twitter @UrbanDriveIn.

Last but not least, there is so much adorable Halloween stuff on Etsy, I just can’t get over it. This page of homemade Halloween necklaces makes me so happy. Some of them are cute, some are gorgeous, and others are wonderfully weird. When you’re shopping for gifts, consider supporting some of these creative shops. And remember, Christmas gifts can be Halloween-themed too. There’s no rule against that.
Have a great time getting into the spirit of things this weekend! And stay tuned for my next blog post. “My 10 Favorite Horror Books for Kids” is coming soon!
Thanks for the shout-out! Love your selfie. 🙂 And thanks for the new temptation re: Etsy. I’m going to have to shut off my computer soon..
You’re welcome! And so true about Etsy. I want ALL the things!
Okay, so I lied about my horror selfie last night. I did make my poster though. Tonight. I swear! And I will so be utilizing your “10 Favorite Horror Books for Kids” as I will be doing a secret scary book giveaway this month at my work, one for kids and one for adults. 🙂
ooOOOoo! Secret scary book giveaways sound like fun! I have no idea what poster you’re talking about. 🙂
The little sign for the horror selfie. A lot of work went into that bad boy. had to get the font just right, center it properly. You know.
OH! I get it now. LOL. I mean I REALLY get it. I shall not divulge how many “takes” were involved in creating my selfie.
Okay! I’m glad it wasn’t just me. My boyfriend was like, ‘do you think anyone else did this? You’re being crazy. Just write the dang thing!’ lol
Nope, not just you. It wasn’t the sign that got me though, but the actual picture, so beware– there could be more OCD in your future. Also, I tend to confine MOST of my crazy to the hours in which my husband is not home so as to avoid such comments like the one your boyfriend made. It works well for both of us.
LOL! I have thought of this. Of saving little projects (and big ones like our care package exchanges) for when he’s not around. I’m so glad I’m not alone in trying to contain the crazy. And yes, indeed, I’m sure there is more OCD in my future. I think I know just where I want to take my selfie though…
